They showed up. Nobody invited them. They're not leaving.

They've been standing here for a while now — not waiting for anything, not going anywhere, just existing at full volume in a way that somehow takes up more space than two small white ducks logically should. One of them has a thought. The other one already had it first. Neither of them is going to tell you what it was.

They have seen things. They have formed views. They will not be taking questions but they will absolutely be making eye contact for longer than is comfortable.

Nowhere to be means everywhere at once. They figured this out early and built their whole personality around it.

I painted these two after watching a pair of ducks stand completely still on a footpath for twenty minutes while people walked around them. No urgency. No explanation. Just — there, and extremely confident about it. I wanted to capture that specific energy of creatures who treat the entire world like it's their waiting room.

The blue was the easiest decision I've ever made. They needed sky behind them. They're that kind of ducks.
