THE BISON

Nobody told him to be this size. He just kept going and eventually stopped caring what anyone thought about it.

At some point — nobody recorded exactly when — someone looked at him and said you're a lot. He heard this. He processed it. He did not change anything. He is not planning to.

The horns were already there. The mass was already there. The half-closed eyes of a creature who has genuinely heard every opinion about him and filed them all in the same place — also already there.

Too much is just enough said by someone who ran out of room.

He didn't run out of room. He is the room.

I painted him black on yellow because I wanted something that felt like a warning sign that had decided to have a personality. The eyes were the whole painting really — that specific expression of someone who has been called difficult so many times they've started taking it as a compliment. I know that look. I've worn that look.
